Beautiful Love (1931 song)
"Beautiful Love" is a popular waltz composed by Wayne King, Victor Young and Egbert Van Alstyne with lyrics by Haven Gillespie. It was introduced by the Wayne King Orchestra in 1931. As a popular jazz standard, the song is included in the first volume of the ''Real Book'' as well as the ''New Real Book''.〔''The Real Book, Volume I'', sixth edition. Hal Leonard. ISBN 0-9614701-4-3〕 It appears as Love Theme both in the 1932 film ''The Mummy'', and in the film ''Hotel Continental'', also 1932" . ISBN 0-7864-2968-2. p. 45〕 New York alternative metal band Helmet included a cover version of the song on their 1994 album ''Betty''. When played by jazz musicians, the note in bar 11 is almost invariably given as an E (in D minor). The correct note is F (as sung by Anita O'Day and anyone who recorded the song before jazz took it up).
Joe Pass performed the song at the Brecon Jazz Festival in 1991 and stated in good jest that he couldn't remember if it was by Victor Herbert, Victor Young or Victor Mature. The song has been recorded by Sophie Milman on her album ''Take Love Easy'' in 2009.
